Asphalt Removal in Rochester, NY

Asphalt fails from the base up and the edges in. Once the mat is alligator-cracked and the edges are crumbling, patching is cosmetic — the surface comes out, or it keeps failing in the same places.

  • From $1,000
  • Haul-away
  • Residential only

Why homeowners remove a asphalt

Water gets into the base, freezes, and pushes the mat apart. That is why an asphalt driveway that looks repairable in July is a mess by March.

Or the surface is being replaced with concrete, pavers or gravel, and the old mat has to come out completely.

What we remove

  • Asphalt driveways and parking pads
  • Overlays and failed patches
  • Small commercial lots and approaches
  • Sport courts and play pads
  • Gravel base where it has failed

Signs it is time

  • Alligator cracking across the drive
  • Crumbling edges and potholes that keep returning
  • Depressions where the base has settled
  • Water sitting on the surface instead of running off

Our asphalt removal process

  1. Quote from photosArea, thickness and access. Asphalt is usually quicker than concrete for the same footprint.
  2. Cut the edgesThe mat is cut clean at the garage, the street and any border so it comes out in sections.
  3. Break and loadBroken in sections and loaded out; millings kept separate from the base.
  4. Strip the failed baseWhere the base has failed, it comes out with the mat.
  5. Grade and cleanThe area is graded for the new surface and swept.

Special considerations

  • Millings are recyclable and sometimes accepted at a reduced rate — that saving belongs to you, not to the quote as margin.
  • Asphalt on a failed base will fail again no matter what goes back on top.
  • Small lots can trigger different disposal rules than a residential driveway; we check rather than assume.

What happens to the space afterward?

The footprint is clear and graded, ready for a new driveway or another surface. Where the base survived, it stays and the replacement is cheaper.

If a replacement surface is going in, we sequence the removal around it — and say so before the work starts.

What asphalt removal costs in Rochester

We do not publish prices we cannot stand behind, because the number depends on what is actually on site. Residential removal projects generally have a $1,000 minimum project value. What moves the quote:

  • Area and thickness of the mat
  • Base condition and how much has to come out
  • Access for equipment
  • Whether millings can be recycled locally

How to get an accurate number

Send photos of the structure, the ground around it and the path a trailer would take to reach it. Add rough dimensions if you have them. Most jobs are quoted from that alone; anything structural or unusual gets looked at first.

Asphalt Removal FAQs

Is asphalt cheaper to remove than concrete?

Usually, because it is a lighter load for the same area. Thickness and base condition still decide the number.

Can the old asphalt be recycled?

Millings are recyclable and kept separate. If the facility takes them at a reduced rate, that saving is yours.

Do you remove the gravel base?

Only if it has failed. If it is sound, we grade it and it can be built on again.

How long does it take?

Most residential drives are done in a day.
